If you send January test scores, are they considered as if you sent them from a previous testing date or are they only added if an application wasn't already denied? How are they counted exactly?

Many colleges require all tesating to be completed by December and thus the Jan test will be too late for those. For those that accept Jan scores and send out decisons in March/early April, it is important that you designate college in test application as one to receive scores upon release to assure they get there in time to be considered; that is the fastest form of delivery and you should not wait to see score before ordering them sent. For those colleges, the scores will be considered in the process of making a final decision and before one is made.

There are a number of colleges that have rolling admissions, in that they send out admission decisions as completed applications are received and a number of those have late application deadlines (such as March 1) and accept January scores. However, if you apply earlier, such as in December and send treanscript and prior scores and thus make your application complete, the January scores probably won’t be considered because you will likely receive a final decision before the scores even come out. In other words for such rolling admissions colleges, you need to apply later to assure Jan scores are considered.
