How does legacy count here?

<p>I am looking at Amherst and have the stats to be considered/accepted, yet I am not a shoe in by any means. My dad, however, went to Amherst, is well known in the higher education world, and has given about $1000 per year for the last 10-15 years to Amherst.</p>

<p>I would love to know that I got into a school on merit alone, but let’s be realistic, I’ll take any boost I can get. Will my dad’s legacy help me at Amherst?</p>

<p>legacy helps, especially ED. It could give you a little boost. Nothing is guaranteed though, and since your father is not a huge donor, you still need to be highly qualified.</p>

<p>yeah that's what i was thinking.... i like amherst but probably not my first choice so no ED but we'll see.</p>
