how does michigan calculate numerical gpas?

I saw that they got rid of plus and minuses but my school gives numbers, e.g. 88 or 92. How would Michigan use these grades for calculating their gpas? Do they include electives?

Also, do they really relcalculate tens of thousands of gpas or do they just look them over?

TIA

I think that any A counts as a 4.0 for Michigan but check on their website to be sure.

They recalculate each gpa to their scale.

I saw this on another thread… Credit goes to @Motherof3Boys Here’s a quickie shortcut:
GPA=x/20 - 1 so if you have a cumulative GPA of 98
98/20 - 1 = 3.9

It doesn’t work like that. You have to convert every grade you got add and then divide to get you gpa on a 4 scale.

They use 4=90-100, 3=80-89, etc.

(Be warned, they don’t use that scale in practice though. They do use +/- for their students!)

The equation I gave converts the OP numerical grade point to a grade point on a 4.0 system. That is what he was asking for. At Michigan they do use plus and minus for the grade system.

^If OP does this for each grade he/she got, this will work. For instance, one of my kids had a 95 avg. divide by 25 ( i think you meant 25 for a 4.0) is a 3.8. However, if you converted each class final grade and add them all up divided by credits, it was 3.97ish.

They don’t use + or - in admissions. Once you enroll, you will get + or -…
