How does Michigan recalculate grades?

Hi,
I’m currently a senior and applied EA to UMich oos. My gpa is 3.69 uw and 4.35 w. Middle school classes drag my gpa down by .1 and from what I heard, Michigan factors middle school out bringing me up to about a 3.79 uw. I also will have completed 10 AP classes by the time I complete high school. Will they recalculate my gpa that they judge me on based off of my AP classes also? I’m really worried because CoE has an average of a 3.9 gpa. Everything else on my application is really solid.
Thanks!

From what I understand, they recalculate your GPA based off of letter grades regardless of +'s or -'s. For example, A’s would be 4 points and B’s would be 3 points and so on. They do not recalculate based off of AP classes, but they take class rigor into heavy consideration when admitting applicants. Well, I hope I helped!

So if my recalculated gpa is a 3.8 and I took 10 AP classes, would I perhaps be on par with someone who has a 3.9 and took 5?

Do they count only core classes or are art, PE, and theology also used for the calculation?

@Testingearly Only core classes

They won’t publish this information, but it will be fairly similar to A+ = 4.0, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, etc. They may even calculate it a few different ways, and have all of them available for admissions officers to see. They do the recalculation so that the GPA used for evaluation is calculated using the same standard for everybody.

Wait what are you talking about Middle school as in 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade?

Michigan calculates their grades the* same* way for every class, regardless of whether they are APs, regular, etc.

This is what my regional counselor told me. She said that they translate the scores into those above-mentioned points, then look into details as to what kind of classes received which grades. This is where “Academic Rigour” comes into play.

michigan doesnt count middle school
