how does my college list look?

this is my college list as of right now. i will be applying this fall.

quick stats: 3.75 unweighted GPA with 7 APs and some honors by the end of high school, 32 ACT (33 superscore), editor-in-chief and co-founder of the school newspaper, involved in a few other clubs, student blogger for a pearson education company, attended a selective journalism program this past summer

colleges:

university of michigan (in state and i love it)
michigan state university (in state)
loyola university chicago (i like the campus and location, and i could get great merit aid based on other students i know)
wellesley college (i like the campus and i love woman's schools.)
bryn mawr college (i like the small size yet so close to philly and other schools)
barnard college (so in love with barnard)
mcgill university (i love montreal, they have a good environmental program, affordable)
boston university (i like the honors college and the city of boston)
fordham university (the location and size appeals to me)

as you can tell i am pretty unsure of what i want in a school. i visited university of michigan and loved it and i visited barnard and loved it. i like great college towns and big cities-- all of the schools on this list minus MSU fit this criteria for me.

i can afford about 30k per year without debt, so i could pay for michigan, MSU, and mcgill no problem.

i want a good school newspaper/magazine to write for-- all of the schools on this list fit this criteria well enough. i'm not sure what i want to major in but i'm interested in environmental science and economics.

if anyone has thoughts about my list i would love to hear them. i think i have a good shot at getting into all of these minus the sister schools- what do you think? if you know of any schools i might like based on this list, please tell me!

BU doesn’t give very good financial Aid

I had a list similar to yours with similar credentials  - it also included Sarah Lawrence and Bard, so you might want to check them out. SLC’s pricey, but they’re pretty good with aid and you might be eligible for a scholarship if your letters of rec/essays turn out well enough. I don’t remember how finaid with Bard went… And Fordham was decent aid-wise.

Good luck!

I’d say Smith sounds like a good match for you.

an important issue with wellesley is it has a big environmental problem

that is their own “spin” on it

If you like the idea of women’s colleges and the city of Boston, you might want to add Simmons to your list. You’d probably get some decent scholarship money from them.

First you need to clarify where the other $30K going to come from. Do you qualify for need based aid or do you require merit aid? The answer to this question will greatly impact your list as some of the schools on your list only offer need based aid, period.

I’d second Smith as a good option. Excellent academics, very good merit aid and lively small town.
