It seems as you’ve had interesting ECs and that’s fine. However, with your GPA and SAT/ACT score range, the list of reasonable schools you’ll be targeting are those with lesser selectivity and will solely admit based on transcript (GPA) and test scores. Only the very selective schools care one iota about your ECs. Since you’re a solid but not tippy top student, you’ll be admitted to schools which will only focus on grades/scores. Do EVERYTHING in you power to improve your GPA this last semester before college apps are due — and improve your test scores, including test prep. Take the ACT. These two items will most greatly affect your college choices-- not any of your ECs. Indeed, if you could drop several in order to improve your grades, I’d advise it in a heartbeat.

College is first and foremost about academics. You want to succeed academically. They’re not hiring camp directors or club managers. They want successful students. You want to be a successful student. Focus your energies on that. Best of luck to you.

@T26E4 I appreciate the feedback!

Agreed, you will need to seek out colleges that are a match for your academic statistics. I would try to get the GPA up as much as possible and put forth a big effort to study for the SAT and/or ACT.

@happy1 In terms of this semester’s grades, I think I should be fine. As for the SAT and ACT, I’ve studied for those the whole summer.

Unless you are doing something really outstanding in STEM that hasn’t been mentioned here (like being involved in cutting-edge research, national/international competitions, etc.), I don’t think you would be admitted into Caltech. Your GPA and test scores (as they are currently) are far from the averages of this year’s freshman class. Caltech is also probably not the best fit for you - from your classes and activities, it seems that you have a bigger focus on non-STEM subjects (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong), and Caltech wouldn’t really be able to help you to pursue these interests.

Bump, and I’m not sure why my thread was placed in Caltech. @Anamfija
