How does my FAFSA EFC just increase now?

I filed my fafsa many months ago, and my UCI financial award is complete, but not online yet. However, I just got an e-mail from the Federal Student Aid regarding my fafsa correction, and I look at my SAR, and it says my EFC is now increased by $900.

How does that happen?

Go through your SAR line by line to see what input information was changed

Schools can (and are required to) change information on your FAFSA that they think is incorrect. If you think the change is incorrect then you need to discuss it with a financial aid officer at the school.

okay, but there are times they make mistakes, so do check line by line what the school did. be thankful it is only $900; our school went in and used the preliminary info from January, resubmitted it, and the difference between our adjusted May EFC and the June one the college did was a whopping $5000.

more later: checking with FA’s superiors to see if something can be done, but I am treading the water carefully. After all, the package is really only missing the Perkins Loan.
