How does Northeastern recalculate High School GPA for prospective undergrad students?

I was wondering how exactly Northeastern recalculates high school GPA for prospective students? When I visited the campus one of guides told me high school GPA is recalculated and graded out of a 5.0. Does that mean all the high school GPA is proportioned out of a 5.0? If so how are AP classes weighed in the GPA compared to regular classes? Or are only AP classes rated out of a 5.0, and if that's the case wouldn't that make your GPA very low? Because if you took for example only 4 AP classes and the rest regular, this would bring down your GPA severely b/c the rest of your classes would be out 4.0 with only those 4 AP's out of 5.0. I hope this makes sense to you! If I'm completely off with what I'm saying then just tell me how they calculate it. Thanks for the help!

when I went to an open house one of the people presenting said that AP courses get plus 5 to them and I.B. sl courses get plus 5 I.B. hl courses get plus 10. And then they recalculate the G.P.A.

I have no idea out of how much though.
I might be off though. While she was talking I just sat down and stared at everything around me lolz. So make sure to ask more people.

Haha well I know it’s out of a 5.0 b/c if you look at Northeastern’s website it says the average GPA is from 3.6 to 4.1 out of 5.0. Thanks for replying. Haha I wish someone knew the answer!

I’m not positive that its exactly the same but to give you an idea, my school does GPA out of 5 the same way that northeastern does. APs are worth up to 5, honors classes are worth up to 4.5. so if you get all A’s in all honors classes you will have a 4.5 so the only way to get higher than this is to take APs.
the only thing that is different is that at my school we have a level above honors but its not AP. that level is also worth up to 5. so i took half highest level classes and half honors and got A’s, A-'s and B+'s and i have around a 4.4

But doesn’t that make it unfair to schools don’t have AP’s or honors, or don’t let all there kids take those classes?

my school has I.B. but we only go up to a 4.5.
Colleges will take all your scores and recalculate them. So in the end the way your school weighed classes does not matter.
