How does NYU Gallatin measure up to NYU CAS?

Does anybody feel one school is better than the other or are they just too different to compare?

Almost too different to compare. My daughter started out in Gallatin but after deciding to major in French she transferred to CAS. She has done just as well in CAS as she did in Gallatin but she said the courses are very different.

Thanks, NC mom. I know that Gallatin students are allowed to take classes in any NYU colleges, and I've been informed that most classes will be taken outside Gallatin anyway, so don't Gallatin students have pretty similar schedules to the CAS students anyway?

Also, did your daughter find it to be a disadvantage to jump around between different NYU schools?

Yes, a lot of classes are taken outside of Gallatin and my daughter did not have any problem with that. She said in most cases the professors really like the Gallatin kids because they are typically very independent. However, not all classes at NYU are open to Gallatin students. It is very hard to get Tisch classes. I am not sure about the other schools because my daughter was interested in the arts. There are some Tisch classes they can take, but they are very limited. Gallatin students have different core requirements from CAS students, so their schedules are a bit different. I think it mainly depends on what courses the student is taking. If they are doing a lot of basics, like math, science, etc, they will have a more regular schedule. Hope this helps some.
