How does NYU Stern work?

I'm a rising senior in high school and NYU Stern has been piquing my interest. I have some very important questions, however, before I choose to apply (especially if early).

1) Once you are admitted, can you choose from any of their business majors and be guaranteed it, or do you have to apply to a specific one and compete against others (again) for a spot?

2) I am personally very interested in the statistics and finance majors at Stern. May I choose one of those and major in Computer Science as well?

3) How is internship/research placement during freshman year or right after freshman year?

1) If admitted to Stern you can automatically choose any major except for the BPE program, which you have to apply for separately
2) You can most likely do this, you would probably just need to get approval from the CS department and your advisor
3) No idea

jazzcatastrophe answered the first two, so I’ll answer the third one.
(by the way I don’t think you can cross-school major for CS, as it’s a CAS major and not Stern. Talk with the advisor and the department, like he/she said)

Internship placement is fierce, I won’t lie. I got a marketing internship for my freshman summer by a stroke of luck, but I’ve seen plenty of my peers struggle to find internships. I think NYC is both a blessing and a curse in that there’s definitely a wealth of opportunities, but also a lot more competition.
Honestly, I’d just sit tight and enjoy freshman year and make sure my GPA is high. Some ridiculously crazy Sternies get accepted to freshman programs at JPMorgan or Goldman (I say this because you mentioned an interest in finance), but the majority don’t and still turn out perfectly fine. Spend your time networking with older students and alumni instead. You’ll need people pulling strings for you if you want to get a high-end internship.
