Ok first off, I'm a guy. How do people usually dress as they walk from their room to the shower and then from the shower back to their room? At first I was considering getting a bathrobe for the walk, but then I thought that it might make me seem unmanly and that I should just wrap my towel around my waist. Or then again, maybe people bring a change of clothes to the bathroom and change after showering, so they can just walk to the shower and back in regular clothes...

Well, I just want to know the "cool" way of dressing for walking to and from the shower.

Who cares what others think? If you want a bathrobe, get one. Your reason is one of THE SILLIEST AND THE MOST FRIVOLOUS reasons not to get a bathrobe. It really helps with the trip back and forth between the bathroom and your dorm room and it also helps when you're cold. So by all means, get one if you want...

I'm gunna wrap my towel around my waist. Isn't that standard? And if I know my roommate will be in the room when I get back, I'll throw some boxers on.

Wow, chill out. In my co-ed dorm, girls and guys both used towels or bathrobes, whatever they wanted. I'd be wrapped in a towel (I'm a girl) and stop to chat along the way with a guy in his boxers or bathrobe or whatever... it's really not a big deal. Do whatever's comfortable for you and get out of the high school mindset of doing whatever everyone else does! That's what college is for, after all.

Middle of the year: bathrobe for girls, towels for boys.

End of the year: towel for both sexes, even on co-ed floors. Stop to chat to hallmates to and from the shower.

I kid you not, I know someone who lived on an all-guys hall where they would wear their washcloths.

haha great reply! This kinda covers all of the options I considered, and I guess I can just skip the bathrobe silliness and start wearing a towel like I eventually will anyways, hehe.

Let's say you dorm with three people in your room and you can't change while they are inside so where would one change then? I would love to bring my clothes to the shower but I'm guessing there is no dry place to put them or some small locker or anything.

Why couldn't you change when there are people in your room? I know it's awkward at first, but let me tell you, you'll get used to it really quickly.

As a guy, I always brought my "bottoms" to the shower with me and hung them on a hook around the shower. So when I'm done in the shower, I dry my body then throw on my shorts/underwear and walk back to my room with one towel on my head and the other on my shoulder.

I bring some fresh boxers and a towel and I just put on some boxers and towel around waist when I leave the bathroom. Then once I get back to my room I'll change w/o worries

I brought a bathrobe in the beginning, for just in case the hallway was cold in the wintertime, but i never used it (i think it still has the tag on...haha). I wore my towel to the shower, and towel back, and would stop in the hallway to talk to my ra or other people i see.

And you can change with other people in the room. It's not like they'll be watching you or staring. You will need to get over that kind of shyness quickly when you're in college; it's really not a big deal.

I'm just going to wear my towel to and from the bathroom. I'll just tell my roommate I'm changing and chances are he'll turn away and give me some privacy until I fire a pair of boxers on.

I usually just put whatever clothes I wore to the shower back on, because I didn't have a bathrobe and I didn't fancy wrapping myself in a wet towel and then trying to hold it up while brushing my teeth at the sink. The rest of the girls on my floor usually wore robes or two towels, and did not ever appear to take a shower and brush their teeth/put in contacts/whatever else at the same time. I never did figure that one out.

It's too cumbersome to do all that stuff at once. I went back to my room to get dressed and came back to brush my teeth.

Mallomar: find really big towels. They're much nicer, anyway. BB&B has some lovely, squishy, fluffy ones that are huge. All of my apt. guests love my towels. They're about $14.99 each and worth it.
