How does one find information about Financial Aid?

Currently a junior. I just started looking around the Internet on how to pay off all that college money. I really am lost and I believe I only have the basic basics:

You use FAFSA,which doesn't give you money,to find your EFC). TUITION-EFC=Your need.
You can then pay off your Need by loans, merit scholarships (by company/college), or by financial needs(college). Kinda iffy on the scholarships and where to start looking.

Is it really just googling and looking around the Internet to learn about different ways to get college funds, or is there something I"m missing?

Thanks for the ongoing help CC

You can start by looking through the financial aid forum on CC :). http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1151-financial-aid-scholarship-resource-threads-start-here.html

There’s not much private merit scholarships out there, but some colleges give out scholarship to applicants who have much higher GPA/scores than the average student body as a way to attract top students. Check the financial aid calculators to see if your EFC is something that your family is capable of paying, and then go from there. (Also, make sure to check your EFC using admission websites of the colleges you’re applying to in addition to the FAFSA calculator.) Good luck with everything!
