How does one get an "incomplete" grade?

I am trying to find information on trying to get an incomplete for my summer course that I am in but my college is being extremely unhelpful I was curious if anybody has any information on this and if I do get an incomplete grade what do you do after that to complete it? I am in kind of an emergency that I will no longer be able to attend my lectures so any information would be much appreciated.

i did that last semester during the week of finals. You have to email the professors of the courses, tell them you want to defer your grade and explain to them WHY they should defer your grade. You usually have to finish the course within the first six weeks of the following semester

How does finishing the course work? do you need to take the same instructor and start where you left off?

Yeah i'm not sure how that works. I just have to take two finals to complete my courses. Just email the professors and ask them.

Contact your professor immediately. I do not think they are obliged to give you an incomplete. Be prepared with a justification. From what I've read in syllabi, you typically finish the course with the same professor. I am not sure that it is possible to change professors. I'd think that is doubtful.
