How does OOS Admission Work?

I'm an out of state applicant with a 2330 SAT and am top 10% of my class, with good ECs. I am also going to be a NMF (projected). I have a couple of questions.

1) How early will I need to submit my application to get engineering as my major? Will it need to be the first week of August?

2) How would I submit my transcript, since I can't submit it through Trex? Would I submit it after I submit the initial application?

3) Would I be an auto admit or a review admit? I live in Alabama, so I'm not sure if the curriculums are different from those in Texas, so would I need to submit any other forms?

4) And exactly how big is the package for NMFs, and does it include anything other than tuition? Also, is it possible to stack scholarships to get a full ride, and if so, how often does it happen?

Sorry for so many questions, but the application opening date is nearing, and I thought I'd ask them here. Thanks!

1) There is no official answer, however, the earlier the better. You are only guaranteed admission to the university and majors are filled on rolling admission ( up to 85% for engineering then holistic review for the remaining 15%). The closer to Aug 1, the better.
2) unfortunately probably snail mail - that was the method we had to use. We submitted, then sent transcripts.
3) neither - you would be an academic admit. They will review your transcript for courses, but you can see the basics online here: http://admissions.tamu.edu/freshman/admitted</a>
4) Here’s the NMF link https://scholarships.tamu.edu/Scholarship-Programs/National-Scholars#0-NationalMerit®Opportunities</a> and yes, you can stack scholarships. Full rides are not that common unless you also have need. Full ride merit, is pretty tough to get - I’m sure someone has one, but in the group of students we know (non-need), there are none. This group includes: NMF, valedictorians, national champions, perfect SAT/ACT, etc… that are friends of my kids. There are many high achieving students here.
Hope this helps answer your questions :)

My son (from Arizona) had similar statistics as yours and was a NMF. He applied in October and got his admission letter within 10 days, along with Aerospace Engineering. They said it had been an auto-admit when we visited in December. He got his scholarship letter in early November. He starts classes this fall. He got the standard NMF package, which is pretty awesome, basically in-state tuition plus $10,000 a year. One thing to keep in mind - to keep your scholarship you have to maintain a 3.5 average.

You should contact Katelin C. Clark, A&M’s national recruiter: kati.clark@tamu.edu, to set up a visit. She will coordinate everything for you, including having current honors students take you from meeting to meeting.

He applied to Texas the same time and did not get his acceptance letter until the end of February. That’s OK; we liked A&M much more.

@AGmomx2‌ @Beaudreu Thank you for your replies!

Could you give me more information regarding the scholarship package that NMFs recieve? From what I can see on the website it says that OOS will get a tuition waiver, and in addition will get $40,000? I’m not sure if I;m reading that correctly.

And @Beaudreu, when you said the standard NMF package, could you describe exactly what you meant my that, and how much you have to pay after the scholarships? Thanks!

It was in my post. $40,000 ÷ 4 years = $10,000/year. That pretty much covers in-state tuition. You would be responsible for room and board and other normal college expenses.

In real numbers: COA (2014-15) is $40,040 (OOS) or $22,470 ( Resident ). NMF you would get the OOS waiver of $17,176 and $10,000 = 27,176 off of the OOS rate leaving $12,864 to be paid. COA includes housing, books, travel & expenses that are all estimates and vary - only tuition & fees are fixed amounts.
