I won a good amount of scholarship money through various organizations
Upenn already gave me an extremely generous Financial Aid package.
I’ve applied to many many scholarship and still waiting to hear back from them. So my point is if the outside scholarship exceeds what I need. Where does the money go?? Return it back to those organizations…???

All the scholarship money you receive deducts from your self-help part of the package (i.e. loans, work study, student contribution). After all that has been depleted, your grant/scholarship money from Penn starts to reduce. And after all that is depleted, the parent contribution is then reduced. I don't think they give the money back to the organization.

Yeah their outside scholarship policy pretty much sucks. At Georgetown, once your self help is depleted they let you take away from your parents contribution up to your federal limit, which is your FAFSA EFC. This would reduce my costs so much and it would really help my family but I'm still probably going to go to Wharton because in the end it will be worth it.

what!! Parent contribution is deducted last??!! UPenn's "making it affordable for every family" is such a hoax. But i heard that outside scholarship money can go into living expense such as money for food meaning depositing outside scholarship money into the caferteria food account???!! is that right?? I got a good amount of scholarship money and will exeed self help. I dont want to take away the scholarship money from other ppl who need it more than I do if upenn is gonna start deducting from grant money after self help is gone. I know Upenn has lots of resources. I would hate to waste the scholarship money from some destitute kids. u know what i mean......

i wish scholarship check is written to us instead of penn..how wonderful the world would be
