How Does Parent Create Their Own FSA ID?

My mom and I are both working on the FAFSA together, in the same room, on the same computer, under my student FSA ID. Anyway, now that we’ve gotten to the signature page, I’m confused as to how she creates her own “account.” It seems like it allows a signature as both the parent and the student under the same ID, but the website stresses two IDs are needed.

Would she just create another ID as if it were a new account?

Yes. Follow the prompts and it will allow your Mom to create her parent FAFSA ID.

Since the FSA ID is the username and password used to sign the FAFSA electronically (and apply for federal student or parent loans), both you and your mom have to have your own FSA ID. She will create one with her name, address, birthdate, and social security number, it will be cross-checked with the SSA. She needs to use a different email address than you as well.

Write down your and your mom’s FSA ID in a safe place.

Parent and child must use different email addresses. You can do it on the same computer but have to have different emails.

"Write down your and your mom’s FSA ID in a safe place. "

AND all the password clues. They are case sensitive. If I had to do it over, I’d have the same answer for every question. What is your dog’s name? Blue. what street do you live on? Blue. what was your best friend from K’s name? Blue.

@twoinanddone @mommdc @Cheeringsection thanks for your help! we figured it out. done and done.
