you can pay through ebill. you can find that in your bearfacts. add a banking account and then every month go on ebill and click pay now. Money will be automatically deducted from the account.

how would you pay without using E-bill. I mean my parents are paying it from their banking account so I can’t really use E-bill.

Yea you set up the account through ebill you list your parent’s banking account. all you or your parents have to do is go online and click pay now. they it will deduct…

What is Electronic Billing (e-Bill) and Electronic Payment (e-Check)?

Electronic Billing (e-Bill) is the web site that provides students with their CARS billing statement. An email is sent to the student each time a statement is generated. Statements are produced monthly for accounts that have recent activity or an outstanding balance. Hosted by Sallie Mae’s Net.Pay Solution, e-Bill provides the ability to:

Receive email alerts at up to three email accounts
View CARS statement history online for up to 12 months
Authorize others (i.e., parents, spouses, etc.) to view and pay the statements online
Establish individual profiles for Other Payers, including email alerts
Student bills are only available online. However, payments may be made via e-Check, mailed paper check, etc. For a list of CARS Payment Options see:
[Billing and Payment Services for Students: e-Bill Back of Bill](http://billing.berkeley.edu/StudentServices/eBillBack.htm#CarsPaymentOptions)

E-Check allows students and authorized Other Payers to submit an online payment via debit from a U.S. checking or savings account. The e-Bill profile stores e-Check payment history for up to 12-months, providing an easy means to track CARS payments.

How to Make an Online Payment?

On the e-Bill Statement Summary screen, you will see the ‘Most Recent Statement.’ To submit a payment, select [Pay Now] and complete the bank account information. Enter the amount you wish to pay. A nominal convenience fee will be charged for each payment submitted.

Payments will be processed as Web-ACH transactions. Checks drawn on investment accounts, equity lines, credit card accounts and some credit unions are not eligible. Please confirm the correct configuration for the routing number and bank account number with your financial institution.

When Will My e-Check Credit to My CARS Account?

Generally, E-Check payments authorized before 5:00 p.m. on a University business day will be credited to CARS that same day. E-Check payments authorized after 5:00 p.m. will be credited on the next University business day.

To confirm an updated CARS balance, refer to:

The next monthly CARS e-Bill statement, or
The CARS Quick Statement and Payment History screens in BearFacts (please allow 2-3 business days)
Students are encouraged to coordinate with their Other Payers since the Other Payers cannot see BearFacts Quick Statement or e-Check payments made by someone else.

I just set up a ebill account, but my current account at wells fargo only says it has 300 dollars in it. But my CARS amount is currently 7000 dollars. If I pay my registration fee of 6500 dollars, will ebill automatically deduct the amount from cars or cause my bank account to close =(

dohenry3000 - when you say your CARS amount is 7000, do you mean that there is that much from financial aid credited to your CARS account? If so, then the registration fee etc are automatically paid out of that amount - you need do nothing.

an e-bill account is only used when you are paying your personal funds to Cal for expenses above whatever is covered by aid and scholarships.

what may be confusing is that when you look at your ebill - it is a snapshot created on a single day of the month. If payments are made, either by financial aid disbursements or by you, the ebill for the month won’t change. It will only be on the following months ebill that you will see the balance altered by any payments made in the last month.

Instead, you look at the Quick Statement part of the CARS section of BearFacts. That will show you the current (as of a day or two ago) state of your account and obligation. When financial aid hits your CARS account, Cal costs are paid from it automatically and then the quick statement will reflect that (with the small lag I mentioned). You will see the amount due drop to zero or at least drop by the payment amount.

You can also look at the payment history to verify that payments you may have made are listed - won’t show up the day of the payment but shortly thereafter.

I actually clicked ‘pay now’ for my own bank account, should I cancel that, because my financial aid has been converted to the CARS amount but it doesnt look like i can do anything with it.

you should cancel the ‘pay now’ from your own bank account if you can.

You don’t touch the CARS account. Finaid goes in, bills are paid. No action required from you.

When you did the ‘pay now’, you offered to pay your costs yourself and not use financial aid. If you did have the money in your bank, the worst that would happen is you would have to wait a few weeks and then any excess amount in the CARS account would come back to you. However, if there is not enough in your bank account, the transfer will ‘bounce’. Might be some fees from your bank and perhaps Cal for handling a ‘bounced check’.

i just used the “one time payment” to pay for my tuition, but nothing indicating that i’ve paid has shown up on bearfacts. any ideas as to why that is?

So what happens if the scholarship amount shows up on the Bearfacts page (subtracted from registration fee) but it is not reflected in the Ebill thing? My mother just overpaid for registration/this month’s housing …

If you pay something, it shows up in CARS –> payment summary it may take longer to show up if you don’t use the ebill system.

If you overpay, they either use it to apply to next month’s or credit it back through EFT/check.
