How does placing out of Calculus work?

<p>Hey,
I am going to be majoring in decision science.
It is required to take Calculus, and I really do not want to take a Calculus course.
21-120 is required, as this link says: Department</a> of Social and Decision Sciences</p>

<p>Now according to this link: <a href="http://www.cmu.edu/hub/registration/docs/ap-credit.pdf%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.cmu.edu/hub/registration/docs/ap-credit.pdf&lt;/a>
^ That says that I need a 5 on the Calculus AB OR BC exam. It says if I get a 4, I obtain credits, correct (it is cut out on that webpage)? How does the placement exam work, and would that get me out of Calculus if I take it?</p>

So if I place out of the 21-120 class (keep in mind: majoring in decision science), would I be able to never take any Calculus classes again?</p>

<p>So let me get this right: I should take the AB exam instead of the BC exam, because the scores are the same. If I get a 5, then I place out of all the Calculus classes. If I get a 4, I can take a placement exam and if I do well on it, I can place out of Calculus. If anyone who is from CMU now knows this, please help me out because this is confusing! Thanks!</p>

<p>I don’t know how the placement test works, but what I want to say is that AP Calculus exam isn’t very hard… it’s not even comparable with the difficulty of mid term in community college. I don’t think CMU placement test will be easier than AP Calculus BC exam. In addition, you are not able to skip the “entire” calculus course unless you’ve taken multivariable calc and your credits are accepted by CMU. What AP Calculus covers is only single variable calculus.</p>

<p>I may be wrong, but I don’t think I have to take multivariable calc or any other calc if I am in the decision science major (go to my first link). I only see a required Calculus I-II class, and I think that if I do well on the exam then I can skip that. I just don’t want to take calculus again because I am never going to be an engineer or use it again.</p>
