How does Rice feel towards Transfers?

I was wondering if anyone had any input about students who want to transfer to Rice. Specifically non-traditional students who have been in the workforce for a few years. I'm actually asking on behalf of my bf.

Past academic history was pretty stellar. Multiple APs, very high SAT scores and was actually a National Merit Scholar. He spent his freshman year at USC, but than dropped out due to personal reasons and never really looked back. Well, this year he recently enrolled in some classes at a local community college and is hoping to transfer to a 4 year university for a BA in Music History.

I read somewhere on the Rice website that they don't accept credits from community college like regular credits...? Does anyone have any experience with this from Rice or even another school?

I appreciate any and all feed back. This whole school thing is a bit daunting after so many years away from it.

Thanks,
StarMaiden

Rice does not offer a BA in Music History unless you are accepted into the BM program and then move to a BA after a year. The Music History major is in the Shepherd School of Music, an audition based conservatory [Shepherd School of Music - Rice University](http://music.rice.edu/undergraduate/degrees.shtml). You do not mention any performance capability. Even the music history major has performance requirements. http://music.rice.edu/undergraduate/pdf/BMMusic%20History.pdf
