how does senior grades impact GPA?

i'm a bit confused. how does senior first semester grades go into your GPA? do they count as a full year, or something? for example :

9th: 3.7 GPA
10th: 3.9 GPA
11th: 4.0 GPA

So cumulative GPA would be 3.866, correct?

So say first semester of senior year, the applicant got straight A's and GPA is recalculated at the end of every semester so...

would it be something like (3.7 + 3.9 + 4.0 + 4.0)/4 = Midyear Report GPA that colleges see?

does HALF a year equate the WHOLE year as opposed to in 9th-11th grade?...

nope...the adcoms are looking for grade trends....

the colleges will calculate accumulated credits and their points...to get a GPA that is current, excluding the second half of the senior year.

That is, the college will use 1st/2nd semester grades from 9th (3.7/3.7) + 10th (3.9/3.9) + 11th (4.0/4.0) + 12th (4.0) for a total of 7 terms (excluding 2nd semester of 12th). Add the semesters together and then divide by 7. That is the initial GPA the colleges will see.
