how does the art supplement work?

I will probably apply to Wharton or SEAS next year and want to show the admissions officers my talents as an artist. Are art supplements only for those applying to Design or Architecture programs or can anyone submit one. Basically i just want a way to showcase my art to show that i am more than just good at academics.

I think anybody can send an art supplement/writing supplement. I heard Penn prefers a CD, but I just sent color prints and a cover letter and a page with descriptions for each piece. I also included 2-3 writing samples. Penn doesn’t use the Common App art supplement, to my understanding. If I were you, I would send something in. I think it can only help. The worst that could happen is they might not have time to look at it.

I just applied as a bio major and decided to send in my art supplement because i hoped it would give me that extra “edge” over an otherwise similar applicant. Actually, Penn does accept the common app art supplement. It just requires you to fill out a form, get a letter of recommendation from an art teacher, and send a cd/dvd of your images. It’s worth submitting your art, as it could only help your application, but it won’t be the deciding factor if you’re not an art major.
