I already signed the form with my GC that said I was in the top ten percent. Does that mean I have guarenteed admission or is there more to it?

You meet these requirements [Top 10% Admits](http://admissions.tamu.edu/freshmen/gettingin/waysAdmitted/topten.aspx) you are accepted to Texas A&M. easy as that.
the different majors at A&M have their own requirements such as math scores on SAT.
A&M has rolling admissions, so apply early to get into the major you want.

When is it changing to top 8%?

I didn’t know that it had been lowered to top 8%

Yes, auto admit to all Texas University was lowered last year to top 8%, thus providing the universities with a bit more flexibility in admissions. Even so, there are many who feel that the top 8% auto-admit is still too high, as tons of rural high schools in Texas really have a top 5% who are relatively “qualified,” the rest (6% - 8%) just fall away by Sophomore year in college and get replaced by the CAP program community college graduates. Never should have been admitted in the first place, but this was Texas’ “one size fits all solution” to the elimination (by law) of affirmative action.

It was reduced to 8% at University of Texas, because they petitioned and it was granted by the state of TX. Don’t think A&M has done the same yet.

Hmm unfortunately Texas A&M has not raised the bar. I thought the new rule would apply to all schools but Klparker is right it is just UT that did this. Quite a shame honestly.

Only like half of the A&M class gets in because of the 10% rule. At UT it was up to about 85%, so high that they were having to turn away tons of outstanding out of state applicants, and in state applicants with great SAT scores from very competitive high schools.

yes and ut had to admit their athletes - most not in the top 10%

50% is still alot when all things considered, most of them are going to just 3 maybe 4 colleges at A&M…I say them, but I graduated in the Top 10%.

Actually the percent for ********* will vary from year to year at UT Austin . For the class graduating in 2012 the cutoff will be Top 9%.

Do out-of-state high schoolers/applicants qualify for top 10% admission?

no - top 10% is only for Texas High School students.
you may qualify for automatic admission for the top 25% and 1300 on SAT Math & SAT critical reading with each being at least a 600 - Or ACT 30 with min 27 on math & english
[Academic Admits](http://admissions.tamu.edu/freshmen/gettingin/waysAdmitted/academic.aspx)

I’m sorry, I can’t imagine what I wrote in post #11 that was deleted, it should have said “automatic admission” I have no idea why that would be deleted.

@klparker312 - are the school/department admission requirements written down anywhere? I couldn’t find them on the web site. For example, if an OOS student can get Academic Admit, is that also “good enough” for engineering?
