It says in the email that it will not affect our admissions status. However, does it affect our courses/classes? Does getting a low score on the exam mean we have to take a lower English class? Thanks in advance.

If you do not pass, you’ll have to take remedial English 1st semester to fulfill that AWPE requirement rather than taking a normal English class right off the bat.

How many remedial classes do we need to take, if one didnt take or completely failed the writing placement. In terms of quarters

If I take the placement test and fail it, but pass the AP English test with a 3 or higher, what would happen?

If you pass any of the alternatives to the Academic Writing Placement Exam, you won’t have to take Entry Level Writing ( “Subject A”). Entry Level Writing is a UC requirement, so these rules apply to all UC campuses. The alternatives are:
3 or higher on either AP English exam, OR
5 or higher on IB HL English Literature (Language A) OR 6 or higher on IB SL English (Language A) OR
680 or higher on the SAT Writing section OR 30 or higher on the ACT combined English/Writing test OR
A grade of C or better in an acceptable college course in English composition worth four quarter or three semester units.
Once you enroll at some UC campuses, you may not use a college course from another institution.

If you failed the AWPE, but satisfied the requirement another way, you should bring a copy of your exam scores or transcript with you to registration. You may have to persuade a counselor that you met the requirement by an altenative to the AWPE.
