My school's grading system goes by a semester system, and the first semester grades are received sometime in February. Considering that I'm applying EA, my admission is decided sometime in December. What's to be done about my midyear report? Is it disregarded in the admission process?

I'm in the same situation and I've shot admissions@mit.edu an email. I'll let you know when they get back to me.

The mid-year score report is not required for EA applicants. In fact, the only schools that would have them are likely foreign or private schools on different scheduling systems.

If you are deferred, you will send in your mid-year reports for review by MIT in January. If you are accepted, you will send in your mid-year reports so they can make sure you are not slacking off (which is grounds for rescinding admission). If you are rejected, you will obviously not need to send in your mid-year reports.

Altough if you do, you might confuse the admissions officers into thinking you really weren't rejected.

I remember Ben saying somewhere, "We're MIT. Our data = perfect." So I strongly doubt they'd make that mistake.

Although I wonder what would happen if you decided to show up anyway. :P

EDIT:
My bad, it was "we're" not "this is."
Appropriate linkage here.

You might be able to get guidance to gather official "progress report" grades from your teachers as a midpoint of your first semester.

MIT does want grades from first term in those systems that use 4 marking periods.

For my son, his 1st term grades closed today and guidance has committed to sending out "midyear" reports (the form says right on it to submit first term grades as soon as available) with his data within 2 weeks.

I would get any progress reports you can out as soon as you can.

Thanks for answering questions for me guys! You are all correct.

All correct? :D Hm...can I quote you on that?

LOL, see olo's post after that one. :-)
