I have been studying in CC for two years and I got amitted by UCI and UCSB in April. Unfortunately, I didnt have enough transferable units(53units). I visited both UCs and they insisted me not to fill in the SIR and wait for another year( in a sercious tone). They said I will never get in even if I fill in the SIR and I might have to bear the consequence. It sounds totally understandable, right? Instead, yesterday I had a lunch with a friend who just got into UCI. She said that she know somebody have only 52units and still submited his SIR, eventually UCI accept his SIR even he had only 52 units. I felt like I am totally a stupid fool who follows the rule. I really don't know how the system works...
P.s. any advice for me as I really don't wanna spend an entire year at the CC.

It is too late for me to fill in the SIR now, right?

Yes, I believe it is too late to SIR anywhere. Most schools are pretty strict on transfers having the 60 units. Your friend’s friend is just an anecdote if it’s true.

I’m curious as to why you would apply to UC’s when you knew you would not meet the minimum requirements for transfer?

Regardless, you should just spend the next year trying to make your application that much stronger and finish as many pre-reqs for your intended major as possible.

Don’t worry about it, there’s virtually no chance they would have let you in with 52 units.

I was unable to add the class that I supposed add in spring so I went under units in the spring. Now I am looking for out-of-state spring transfer!!! Any Uni recommends for spring transfer? I can only find a few of them(public school) which offers spring transfer.

Why not just wait an extra semester and transfer to a UC?

yeah I had to spend a extra year at a CC (3 years in total), and I did not ever regret it, usually it will turn out excellent for you if you keep your goals in mind till the end. It’s not bad to spend another year at a CC, actually I spent the whole year on finishing some of my GE’s/major pre-req’s and classes that could benefit me in the future, like taking German classes so think of it as a opportunity to hone your skills and make your transition to the U’s that much easier for you, (you can even say that spending a extra year at a CC helped you hone your maturity and your passion to a greater degree in your personal statement haha)

though, this is my opinion, its up to you

I spoke to their counselor who said they dun accept any other time but fall for transfer…
@fredfrep, you maybe right, I might be able to make this extra year as meaningful as possible. I plan to take more variety of classes(besides GE) if I have enough money. But my first option(my family demand) is find a possible school to transfer in spring.

What I meant was that other schools might accept for Spring semester, but why not wait just one more semester and apply for Fall. Either way you won’t be transferring until 2013.
