How does the transfer system from a cc/csu/uc to a UC work?

Ok, some general questions: i know that you need 60 transferable semester units but how long is a semester compare to a quater? (for example : i take a psychology course at PCC for summer intermission but would that count as semester or quater credits?). How many courses are we taking in total in order to fulfill that requirement? Would taking several courses during the summer speed up that process? (is there even a limit to how many courses we may enroll in per term?)

i am currently a high school student but i will enroll in Californa Polytechnic , Pomona for 2011 fall term. I really want to transfer as a lower-division applicant , if possible, to UCDavis as either a freshmen (transferring after the first quarter at calpoly) or a sohpmore. Where can i find the required semester units needed to be completed in order to transfer this way?

i haven't really look into the other UCs but i hope to be able to do the same with them as well.

Why don’t you just do community college instead? The transition process will be much smoother than doing a CSU to UC transfer since most if not all CSUs are given low priority than cc students. Trust me I was a CSU student, and let me tell you this, attempting to transfer out was not a fun process. I ended up staying in CC for two more years in order to transfer out to the UCs.

i agree, community college may not sound fun but it’s the better way to get to UC. just work hard as you would do any other school and you’ll get there. UC’s will pick community college students over CSU students

I agree as well. Definitely go to a CC. Not only are CC students given way higher priority, but you’ll save yourself a ton of money.

Transfer counselors at CC’s are really helpful, and you’ll find all the requirements listed on sheets in your counselor’s office. As for semester/quarter, the transfer requirement is usually 60 transferable semester units or 70 transferable quarter units. I think your summer class will just count as whatever system your school goes by.

Why don’t you want to stay at Cal Poly Pomona?

As most people are posting, go to a CC.Sure,it doesn’t have the univeristy feeling and it could be possible that you may not transfer in two years(depends how early you set up your schedule because this is the reason why I am still here 3 years after HS graduation).CC’s get a better chance of transfering. And if you start at a CC, you can apply for the Transfer Admission Guarantee (a.k.a. TAG) for many UC’s,including Davis. This program guarantees you admission to a UC (excluding UCLA and Berkeley).

The system works like a charm.
