How does everybody feel about NYU Stern. After reading through this forum i have found a lot of controversy over NYU and it seems people either love it or hate it. I am in the summer between my junior and senior year and i'm looking at the BPE Program at NYU Stern. But i am seeing a lot of negativity towards Stern. I am equally interested in Wharton too because it seems from reading that anyone who goes there automatically becomes a rich business leader or gets great oppertunity in Ibanking. And i am interested in both of those career paths. I am also looking at Columbia, MIT, Stanford and the 3 "Super Ivys" (among a couple others) but this program at Stern just looks amazing, and wharton is just unparelled in Prestige in this field. Also, I'm not sure if NYU has the prestige I am looking for. I want to major in Business or Economics with a strong concentration in finances and a minor in Polical Science.

So tell me what you think of NYU. What do you think of Stern. Share you knowlege and opinion of Wharton. Compare NYU and Wharton. Compare it to other schools (Especially Columbia). Ask any questions you have for others to answer. Lend any opinions and knowlege you have and let's make this one of those large ongoing threads with loads of information!

both are top bschools. people don’t like NYU because it’s not a typical college experience (no campus, no grassy quad, etc.) it definitely isn’t for everyone.

all the schools you are talking about will open tons of doors for you.

Both Stern and Wharton are great business schools - they both lack nothing when it comes to prestige. Stern, along with Tisch and the Law School, is probalby NYU’s gem.

If you are looking at business schools, U Mich Ross, UC Berkely Haas, Notre Dame Mendoza and UVA also have some of the top rated programs. (All are considered better then Stern) Also, something to note about MIT, it has a really small undergraduate business program. All MIT Students have required courses which include chemistry, biology, physics, calculus. So, if you are not a math and science person MIT might not might be the bschool for you. Their business school if you havent figured it out is very math/science based. If you are looking at econ/finance their are stronger schools in those fields then MIT.

Thankyou. I did not know that, I love math, but i hate science which i guess would not work well with MIT. I am also looking for a larger undergraduate body which also is a negative for MIT. MIT is now off the list. You just saved me a lot of research and time. Thanks again.

First off OP, just to get it out there, your posting name is disgusting.

Now since that is over with, anyone would be fortuante to get into either school, and both are looked upon extremely highly. Indiana University, with the 13th best business school in the nation that is on par with Cornell, might make a good safety for you.

Prestige-wise:
Super-Ivies + Stanford (i like that term) > Penn-Wharton >> Columbia ≥ Penn-CAS (that’s right, i went and looked up the greater-than-or-equal-to symbol) >> NYU Stern > NYU

Good college experience

Super Ivies + Stanford + Penn (all of it) > Columbia > NYU
