Hey! So I'll be an FPF student in the fall and I'm trying to work out my schedule. If you have taken any of these classes before or any have advice as to what I should/shouldn't take, please feel free to let me know! Thank you!

Math 1B with Smith (4 units)
English R1A with Angevine (4 units)
Environmental Science 50AC with Spreyer (4 units and completes Cal's American Culture requirement) (Breadth course)
Music 27 with Foglesong (4 units) (Breadth course)

Does this sound like too much? Or just enough? It's 16 units total, but I think they will all be somewhat easy classes, and extremely interesting. I might end up taking Math 53 on Berkeley's campus because Math 1B will be a repeat for me, but I feel I could use the review. What do you guys think?

Is there a way to specify which teacher you want for the R%C courses? From what I’ve read on this forum, I heard 16 is a lot for first semester (the transition from HS to Cal).

My major is genetics i believe, but as a spring admit in fpf first semester, it’s not specified.
I know Math 1B is hard but I’m in Ap Calculus BC right now, which are equivalent, am I right? I have a strong base in math so I’m thinking I will be okay.
so 16 units is okay?

You really have no business taking Math 53 then, unless you just want to take extra math for no reason.

Medical schools will want you to take 16A-16B or 1A-1B or 1B-53 (or 53-54) (listed from easiest to hardest). Medical schools do not differentiate between 1A-B and 16A-B. You should start with Math 1A or 16A, definitely not 1B.

I don’t mean to hijack, but since the FPF program has a limited number of courses available, does anyone know if it is possible to sign up for classes on campus? I am taking english through FPF but I am also interested in taking French 3 and Chem 1A, both of which are for my potential major(s), which are only offered on campus. Is it possible to take classes other than math 53 on campus?

you can’t take classes like chem and french first semester (i know, it sucks). but its also a good way to get your breadth courses out of the way
and for english 1a, when you fill out your courses, you pick if yo uwant lecture 1,2,3,4,5 or 6. each lecture has a different teacher. therefore, you can specify teachers go take a look at the schedueling thing. its helpful haha

on the form, you are only allowed to select lectures/discussions for breadth classes, the R&C courses are just WHEN you want them (mon/wed or tues/thu)

oh okay, well I guess I’ll postpone french and chem for later.
and ditto to Hello, the form doesn’t let you pick lecture 1-6, it only lets you pick English R1A vs. Rhetoric R1A, and M/W vs. Tu/Th :(
