how does this list sound?

vanderbilt
princeton (father, grandfather)
duke
harvard (grandfather, uncle, uncle)
dartmouth
davidson
possibly brown

unlikely that any will be added/removed at this point, but more than open to suggestions...hence the post

misc:
2380 (780cr,800w,800m)
4.4w (2/240)
rowing (3, not pursuing), soccer captain (4,cap junior&senior), ranked golfer
all the standard awards

You will probably be fine with that list, but most people would have a safety school.

you need a safety. try some LACS outside the top 15.

I agree -- where's your safety? You should be in at Vanderbilt/Davidson, but I don't think you can really count them as safeties.

interesting

I would add a safety - but yay for Davidson! That's where I'm going. I feel like it's a low match for you, but it's hard enough to get into all of those schools that it's slightly random, so even top students like yourself get rejected sometimes. Maybe look at some safeties that offer good merit aid? I personally applied to Rhodes as a safety, and ended up really liking it when I visited. I'd give it a look.

that might be a good list, but it depends on your intended major

Maybe another safe match just in case? A place like Emory or Tufts might be worth the app even though you likely won't attend.

I agree with the rest of the people here. Try looking for a safety that's basically 100% going to accept you.

yeah and Wash U probably isn't a good safety to choose cause knowing them they'll waitlist you since you're overqualified and most likely to attend a harder school. just a tip :P

there isn't a chance in hell i would apply to washu for that exact reason. one of the highlights of my vanderbilt visit was actually the explanation of this whole "commons" thing, basically a huge amount of money was put towards the freshman experience exclusively. from all the schools i've looked at they seem to care the least about rankings and the most about undergrad experience. davidson definitely came close which is one of the reasons it's on my list. i think i should be ok in terms of admission though, but will have a look at tufts as it has come recommended a few times.

You're probably okay with Vanderbilt and Davidson as safeties. I think your list looks good, I think Brown might be a good idea.

What will your major be?

Looks good. I like your thinking.
