I didn't have any homework last night and decided to play around with Excel... so I made a pretty little schedule for my plans on transferring and wanted to see what you guys thought! I'm looking to transfer by Fall 2012.

Before you take a gander, bear in mind that math was my weakest subject, so I started college in a lower level math, though it's coming easier to me now (probably because I'm taking it seriously these days). By next fall, I will finally be tackling my UC transferable English class and math courses (trigonometry, which is non-transferable BUT a pre/co-requisite for pre-calculus, so I'll be taking those two simultaneously).

I also spent a few semesters effing around, so this schedule includes some courses I didn't do so hot in before. Additionally, my Spring 2012 semester appears a little dense at first, but it's filled with introductory lower-level division classes just to finish up the IGETC so I imagine it won't be too bad.

I have an unnatural love for Excel. I made a sheet like this as well and it really helped to visualize things. If you can take another class during that summer I suggest it. It feels good to have a credit/unit buffer.

Seriously, I used to do it by hand but it’s just not the same. And I was thinking of taking Trig this summer along with Gen. Chem 1+L, but I was advised by a couple counselors against it and was told that it would be [near] impossible/really difficult.

Although of course, it’s dependent on the individual.

COunselors almost always defer to the lowest common denominator. But if you are capable of doing intellectually and willing to sacrifice an inordinate amount of time, then do it. When I began at my CC, I sacrificed almost all of my leisure time in order to accomplish my goals. Now that I am on the verge of transferring, I am so happy I did.

You could choose to take Trig on a Credit/No-Credit basis…then you wouldn’t have to worry about getting a good grade in Trig because all you’ll need is a >70%. Then you could focus on getting an A in Chem…assuming Chem is UC-transferable. If neither class is UC-transferable you could just take both Credit/No-Credit and just coast through them.

I just took Trig this Winter btw, I chose to take it for a letter grade and got an A. It was quite time-consuming, but you just need to be on top of your workload. It’s a good class to take for a short session because there isn’t that much material and it isn’t too hard to understand. This is coming from someone who graduated high school not knowing how to factor polynomials…lol. So don’t think Trig is an incredibly hard short-session class, it’s not.

Thanks for the posts so far you guys! Lovin’ it!

True. I’ve turned down several invites for fun outings usually to get ahead in my studies. While it totally sucked then, I’m glad I did now that I look back. But that’s awesome, and I’m excited for you! Where will you be going?

Med school is the goal, haha.

Holy hell, that’s a genius idea! General Chemistry is UC transferable and will be one of my major’s pre-requisites, so I plan on taking that for a letter grade. But doing that simultaneously with Trig for pass/no pass this summer sounds like a solid plan.

And I feel ya on graduating high school with very little knowledge on Algebra; I didn’t know how to do the most basic things either, but it comes to me REALLY easy these days, and I’m thankful I started off in a Beginner’s Algebra type of class to build a strong foundation before I take on the harder math classes.

Exactly. Not only did I give up leisure time with friends, I had to cease doing some of the things I love like Muay Thai.

I’m not sure yet where I will be going since applications come out at the end of April. I didn’t TAG because I felt guilty TAGing with a 4.0. I also applied to some out of state privates, but should I receive admission to Cal and have it financially be less burdensome, then I would be honored to go there.

^ That’s awesome. Best of luck! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for any posts from you regarding your admissions :)

Question to all: the Bio 204 I’ll be taking next Spring is “Foundations of Biology: Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, and Molecular Biology”. The pre-requisite is Chem 110, which I intend to take this summer along with Trig. Would having that already have me set for Bio 204, or should I take the recommended Bio 101 lecture beforehand (possibly Fall 2011)? The last time I had Biology was my freshman year in high school.

I know Bio has become impacted for transfers at UCSD…and I wouldnt exactly say your schedule “fulfills most major prereqs” cause you still got the entire calc/physics and ochem series…so bio MIGHT be iffy. You should be fine with Chemisty since it is not impacted though.

If you get the required 3.5 (new requirement) GPA, and do everything in your schedule you will get into one of your two majors.

Good luck man! I wish I had stuck to my excel I made 3 years ago lol

Thinkin’ about it now, I have no idea why I even said that… lol. Wishful thinking perhaps?

Admissions look to be getting more fierce by the year. UCSD must really be overcrowding I guess (or, as someone else had mentioned in another thread: trying to keep up with the likes of Berkeley and Los Angeles).
