How does this sound

First off: The email idea was a joke

Second off: I loved SPS, just that after some serious thinking I will eliminate it. I have to draw the line somewhere and cannot go to all revisits.

I don’t see the problem with a letter similar to what was initially posted. It took less than a minute to read and is written in similar style as the letters the schools send to us. I see no harm in sending a letter of this length, (although I wouldn’t go much longer.)

To be fair, my letters were of the short and sweet variety.

Principal did you get accepted to Choate?
I heard(this may or may not be true) that they specifically request that you don’t send a letter. That you fill in on a form of why you didn’t pick their school and what school you picked.

I have no idea if this is true, or if they just want to make sure that you at least fill out that form. I think it is the latter.

Hmm. No I did not apply to Choate.

That probably is smart, though. I am sure other schools are thinking along the same lines.

The admin people just went through a brutel admin season, with the economy and changing financial horizons. They are too tired to read your long letter. You’ll get about one sentence of attention.

And, you know, as tired as they are they may not be looking for your critique as to why you did not choose them. Its a bit insulting. Don’t insult tired people who just offered you a precious seat.

The letter approach is nice, but limit it to a nice statement, such as: dispite your programs strengths my family and I have chosen to explore other options.

In fact…if you look a little closer to your online acceptance you will notice a link saying “Let us know if you will enroll in the fall”. You simply click that, they give you 2 box, you will or you won’t. You type in what school your going to, and click send. Not that hard, no where does it ask for a description or anything. I don’t think they really care to much about a few kids.

Find a rejection letter posted online and use the exact same wording. (Ha! Turn the tables!) I’m just kidding, of course.

@Neato: Haha.

@Toadstool: I think they like to know why you chose another school over them. In the end I am going to have to go to 1 of 6 schools and the 5 I do not go to will be extremely prestigious. I don’t think their self esteem will be hurt if someone as insignificant as me politely tells them why I did not go.

I guess the job world is different but my father, when he hires (which, in this economy is not often) likes to know why someone did not chose his/her. A school such as SPS does not need consolation as to why I did not chose it, they have a truly amazing program.
