Hey,
I know Penn state it two hours away or so from Harrisburg and small airport. i am coming from out of state, and was wondering how if you cant fly into the small airport located in college station do freshmen get to the campus. a taxi would be very expensive, and i dont see a bus taking you there with all your luggage and stuff.
just wondering if that is my only option, i live across the country by the way!

First of all, the town is called State College, not College Station.

Second, the Airport is less than 10 minutes from Campus, so taking a taxi isn’t really expensive. I shouldn’t be a problem…

*IT shouldn’t be a problem

Getting to the State College airport, my DS usually takes a bus (cheap). Getting back to campus he usually takes a shuttle van or takes a taxi. Don’t know the exact amount, but it’s not much.

As warrior said - 10 minutes away. Easy.

@Meow - If you can’t get a direct flight to the State College airport, I suggest either flying into Philadelphia or Dulles, adn then grabbing a connection flight. The airport is very close to the school and there are a number of taxi services in the area.

Coming from the west, I doubt there are any direct flights into State College. Philadelphia, Detroit, and Washington-Dulles are the best options for flights into State College.

Actually, Philadelphia (USAirways), Detroit (Delta), and Washington-Dulles (United) are the ONLY options for flights into and out of State College.

^^^ That’s what I was thinking, QT. Of course, WHY there isn’t a flight from Pittsburgh just amazes me!

When Pittsburgh was the USAir hub there were direct flights to SCE. Eight or ten years ago there was a big dust-up between the two and USAir cut it’s flights through P’burgh by about 90%.

Flying through Philly is generally considered the worst option, with the highest likelihood of being delayed, probably followed by Detroit, though my family members have spent the night in all three. :(

^^^
LOL! DS actually had the “best” luck with Philly - only a 1 hour delay! He’s spent the night 3 times in DC! He’s a “regular!”

Maybe he met my S1 at Dulles? Thanksgiving eve?

Thanksgiving was about the only time he wasn’t late! He actually flew back to PSU on Thanksgiving Day so that he could be up there in time for band practice for the Saturday game. But he managed to have 2 “overnights” in January and 1 in February! By Feb it was getting really old…

Maybe he should travel with a sleeping bag and pillow. ;)

Actually - since he was going to/from drum corps camp…he HAD a sleeping bag and pillow with him! I told him he just needed to open his instrument case, start playing, and try to earn some $$$$!

yeah i meant to say that there is no option for me flying directly into the penn state airport. so i was just wondering how other people traveled to and from home with the 2nd closest airpot is about 2 hours away.

Meowimacat - where are you flying from? Can’t you fly into DC or Philly - then catch the flight directly to State College?

I still think this is a lot simpler than you are making it. Fly your first leg to somewhere a bit further away, like say chicago, then catch a flight to state college.

Also, you could fly to pittburgh, and take a bus. There is a greyhound station right across atherton street from campus, so it will drop you off right there.

well first i fly alaska because of credit card and points, and they dont connect. i had to fly into chicago then Harrisburg and rent a car. and another thing it is almost $200 more to fly into penn state, then harrisburg or Pittsburgh. 200 dollars adds up, and i dont want to waste my money in college

I have to be honest, this still doesn’t sound like it is making sense…where are you flying from?

flying out of seattle, washington
alaska is the airline a lot of people use out here.
