How does this work?????

Okay so I know admissions for in and out of state are WAY different at UCB.
What is the acceptance rate for out of state applicants?

Also, what is the typical SAT and ACT range for accepted OOS applicants?

bump........

I think the acceptance rate for OOS was ~18%. Remember, though, that OOS is, to a degree, self-selective; many people know that 1) it's very difficult to get in OOS, 2) it's very expensive if they do get in, and 3) Berkeley probably won't give them much aid.

The stats for OOSers aren't published, but you can bet that they're high.

hmm not necessarily..a number of people i've talked to had similar stats as in state ones. but of course you do have people who do have very high stats. 18% as opposed to like..24% for in-state isn't wayy more selective. but in any case, give it a shot and apply!

I remember a while ago that the Cal newspaper or some Cal related article said the total acceptances (in state, out of state and international) fell to 23.2% total for Fall 2007 -- wow, can't believe I actually made it in. It wasn't divided out into percentage of out of state vs in state, but I remember on the admitted/rejected thread there seemed to be a LOT of oos acceptances, way more than I thought based on collegeboard figures.

hallo88: selectivity isn't based on acceptance rate. The acceptance rate for U Chicago is ~40%, though they're about as selective as Duke, etc.

U Chicago is an aberration. In general, acceptance rate is a pretty decent indicator of selectivity. Although, I do agree that there's quite a bit of self-selection going on for OOS such that the acceptance rates are closer than they should be.

U Chicago isn't an exception at all. What about Caltech? Pomona? Swarthmore? All of these colleges have about a 20% acceptance rate yet have SAT score ranges comparable to Harvard's (and in some cases higher than Harvard's).
