How does transferring credits work with UVA?

I was thinking that I could take some classes at NOVA (local community college) over the summer so I could have more credits coming in. Does UVA allow this?

Are you a current student at UVA? If so you have to get it pre approved. Otherwise you can just take any class listed there. Remember if you're incoming extra credits don't count towards registration anymore.

ALSO.
I would recommend taking something that fulfills area requirements!!

I'm not a current student. What do you mean if Im incoming that extra credits dont count towards registration? If I take a 200 level writing course equivalent at NOVA would it satisfy the second writing requirement even though I havent done the first? Also, would my grades in these classes be transferred to my UVA GPA?

You can only fulfill the 2nd ww at uva. sorry.
Your GPA does not transfer.
All of this info is online.

I would recommend taking an AREA requirement not a COMPETENCY requirement (competency: 1st ww, 2nd ww, for lang; area: math/science, ss, humanities, etc) as these WILL count and competency reqs pretty much need to be filled at UVA and not through transfer credit.

I am pretty sure as of the incoming class of 2011 that when you register for classes (at UVA) you will not be counted as a 2nd year anymore even if you have 30+ credits. That is a new thing as of next year. However, it really doesn't matter. You will still register first out of your class if you have a lot of credits, though, it just doesn't move between class levels like it does now (as in I brought in 36 credits so I registered before many second years this spring). This is not a major deal though because everyone switches/adds in to classes the first week anyways. You should worry about not having to take random classes for area requirements, or take something that is a prereq for your major or something useful like that.

Ok I get it. I was thinking Id get rid of some of the area requirements I have left. Problem with signing up for summer classes is that I won't know which AP credits I earned by then <_<. Thanks for the info.

Is taking classes over the summer before matriculation considered dual enrollment?

no. it just counts as regular transferring credits, without prior approval needed. its pretty sweet. what are you thinking of taking?

I think I'm going to take Calculus II. I had a horrible teacher in precalc and decided not to take BC (although now I regret that decision). It will help me get a kick start on my math major and keep the material fresh in my head. I always forget stuff over the summer. I decided not to take an area requirement since most will be completed due to AP credit or pre comm classes. I also found 2 interesting classes that each satisfy 2 requirements.

Awesome. Calc II is a good class not to take at UVA. It is highly failed here.

Yea, I'm in BC too and it was really easy the first quarter and now it's really hard. I plan on just taking Calculus I but if I am required then I must do it.

Oh how comforting. But it's UVa, one of the greatest college.
