how does triton cash work?

I was curious how the Triton cash thing works...
and if i do get a triton cash account do i still have to buy the dining plan?

You already bought the dining plan (around 2700 dollars or so) - it’s a part of your housing fees.

uhhh i didnt pay for anything yet…

Triton cash is money that is deposited on your ID card from your online account, which you set up at [Housing, Dining, and Hospitality - Triton Cash](http://tritoncash.ucsd.edu/). Triton cash works at many on and off campus restaurants and the dining halls, but I found it most helpful for laundry purposes. That way you don’t have to worry about finding quarters (oh, and laundry machines eat quarters).

However, if you are living on campus, you HAVE to have dining dollars. Like the above poster said, it is included in your on-campus housing fees. Triton cash would just be supplementary, and it’s optional.

How do those dining dollars work? Is there a cafeteria that works like a buffet? I doubt it, but I sure hope so since I can eat a lot of meat…2-3 lbs on normal days. If not, I’ll be making up my protein needs with cheap protein powder. Then there’s the other stuff I have to get to get up to 3-4k calories a day.

^No, there is no buffet system. You pay individually for each thing that you want to eat. Sandwiches were $5.25 for example (I say ‘were’ because I’m sure the prices will go up for this year). This system is nice because you don’t have to waste a “meal” every time you go in for just a snack.
