I'm curious as to know how does Tufts assign housing? My daughter is accepted to Tufts in the ED2 process, and we have still not heard any information on this. She tells me that there won't be anything until July. I'm curious to know if ED1 and ED2 kids will get some kind of preference of choice to housing, as they've shown a commitment to Tufts by choosing it as their ED choice.

Hi, I am an ED acceptee as well....From what I understand, we unfortunately do not get any preference in housing. I think we will receive a roommate questionnaire in may/june and that will determine our housing. We will find out our assignments in late july/august....
I found this link you might want to check out:

hope this helps!

My daughter is a current freshman accepted ED1. No, they do not get any preferential housing process. She did complete a very basic housing questionnaire in June and didn't hear about her dorm assignment until very late in August. She was the last of her friends to know! Strangely, she was assigned a single which was a bit of a surprise. It has worked out very well though. She loves her privacy and still has met a lot of students on her hall in her dorm. There were also other freshman assigned to singles as well.

You are asked if you want a freshman dorm or a mixed dorm on the housing questionnaire. My daughter was very flexible about everything (except living with a smoker) but somehow she ended up with the single!!

Thanks for the replies. Too bad ED's don't get preference, I would think it's only fair... :)

Tufts assigns housing though the use of a 20 sided die and a dungeons, dragons & elephants dungeon master guide =)

They close their eyes and staple two questionaries together. Sometimes, they mess up and end up stapling three papers together!

(Kidding.... bca explained it pretty well.)

I did housing assignments one summer when I worked for Reslife!

Roommate pairings are done based on the questionnaire, which isn't long and sticks to the you and what you can tolerate on basic criteria: typical bedtime, studying with noise, smoking. Reslife will assign as many people as they can to the specialty housing they request, but the actual room assignments within each building is essentially random.

Though, I suppose I could have created a floor of people who's names start with the letter M if I had wanted to. Ah, but how common is it to not see the opportunities before you until they've already passed you by?

I've seen people with the same first name paired up. What sick senses of humor people in Reslife can have...

I don't think it would be fair for them to give housing preference to ED acceptees. This would mean that kids from lower income families who can't apply ED (because of getting locked into a potentially difficult financial situation) but do get in RD are disadvantaged in the housing selection process.

I thought that if you applied ED and didn't get the financial aid you needed, you weren't obliged?
