How does UF Admissions view progress throughout high school?

UF’s middle 50% for high school GPA is 4.1-4.5 My high school GPA is only a 4.06 due to my underachieving in freshman and sophomore year. However, my gpa has raised significant in junior year and is highly likely to remain high during senior year. Here are my weighted GPAs for each year:

9th grade GPA: 3.3
10th grade GPA: 3.8
11th grade GPA: 4.7
12th grade GPA: In progress (likely to be around 4.7 if not higher)

My question is: Will admissions officers look at my low GPA and waive me off or will they see that I have been making sizeable improvements each year and give me credit for that?

In general, most colleges (that will look at your GPA on a year by year basis, some only look at your final GPA and test scores) will take into account a positive trend. With UF admissions, it’s kinda like reading the tea leaves, they take so many factors (as part of the holistic method) into account, it impossible to get a nuance understanding of the process. However, UF does ask for your GPA on a year to year basis (on the SSAR), so they do take it into account.

With all that being said, it is a positive that you’ve been able to show such great improvement! =D>

Good Luck!

@Gator88NE So, how much do you think my WGPA is hurting me since it is below the 25th percentile despite my strong improvement. In other words, how greatly are my chances of acceptance being reduced even though I have shown very strong improvement?

Keep in mind that 25% of the freshman class will have a worse GPA than you (4.06 or about 4.1). If your EC’s, essay and test scores are strong, it shouldn’t hurt you. If your EC’s and test scores are average at best, then it becomes a problem.
