How does UGA calculate GPA?

My son is a rising senior in Florida. He is looking at UGA for a major in English/Writing. The State schools in Florida do not use the HS's GPA. Instead, they recalculate GPA's by using only certain core curriculum courses. Does UGA use a similar system?

No, As far as I know (and someone correct me if I’m wrong) they take the HS GPA for what it is. Core, Electives, AP’s IBs’ all of this is figured into the cumulative GPA and your son’s gpa should come out as X.X. Nothing ignored or specifically selected. All classes are considered. Or was that your question?

That’s wrong. UGA does recalculate GPA and only includes academic courses (so no band, art, etc). See their explanation here: [University of Georgia :: Undergraduate Admissions :: First Year Admission Criteria](http://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/first_year_admission_criteria.html)

Thank you for the information. While I am on this subject, can you gauge his chances for admission? He is out of state, so I assume admitting standards are a little higher.

GPA (core courses only) = 3.2
SAT = 2030/2400 (M:620, CR:670, CW:740)

allegedly, OOS admissions don’t have to have better stats to be admitted to UGA

That said, not sure if a 3.2 is gonna cut it. UGA has a buttlove for GPA, and a 3.2 is low by their standards. I’d like to think someone with a 2030 could get in, but I’m really not sure. My situation was similar, but less extreme (3.4, 1960 SAT). I did get in Regular Decision though.

Good luck tho.
