How does UMN grade at the CSE

Hi
I am a international student wanting to do CS and have to take a final call where I will go this fall
I have been admitted to the CSE at UMN but it seems here the majors are decided after freshmen year . You are guaranteed a major if you get a 3.2GPA . How does UMN grade - is it normal grading or a bell graded. How difficult it is to get into a 3.2 GPA .
PS
I have admits into other universities with CS ( UIUC and Umass honours ) . Please help me make up my mind

Grading varies from class to class, and professor to professor- there is no set policy. However, a 3.2 should be easily for any first-year CSE student. You would need to slack off significantly, or register for classes beyond your ability.

There are other things to compare between Minnesota, Illinois and UMass for you to consider- this need not be a concern.

The 3.2 technical GPA doesn’t really come in to play for any major other than ChemE where UMN is ranked #3 in the nation. I have a friend in CompSci right now and I think he said the cutoff for that last fall was a 2.6, even lower for Computer Engineering. As far as classes go, some are curved, some aren’t. Math is technically curved but it’s really not, physics and chemistry are. Not sure about coding classes. The avg. grade is typically curved anywhere from a C+ to B.
