Well, with acceptance in hand and the invitation to inerview for the trustee merit scholarship I took the opportunity to look at the program.

They invite 300 students to Explore USC.

Are all of these students potential Trustee Scholars?

Are presidential scholars "runners up" for the trustee scholarship? Or are they also invited to Explore USC, but to interview specifically for Presidential?

Hmm, I can't imagine they'd interview 300 people for 120 scholarships, but maybe I'm wrong...

yup, presidential scholarship finalists are invited to interview specifically for the presidential scholarship. i know that coz i'm a prez scholarship finalist :)

kritarch, according to the financial aid site, the Trustee is offered to people with SAT/ACT scores in the top 1-2%, whereas the Presidential is for people with top 2-3% scores. So it sounds like they divide them beforehand.

Ok i know they choose finalists based on grades/sats etc but when eveyrone interviews for the actual scholarship, are the winners based on ONLY that interview, or do they also factor in your grades/sat that they saw when they picked u as a finalist? Im pretty worried because i probably have the lowest scholarship qualifying stats on the entire board (1390, 3.84)

They probably factor in everything...(I have a lower UW GPA than you PinkPanther)...inlcuding probably you essays, interview, stats, ECs, recs, etc...

well in all honesty, i know a couple of people (myself included) who are very strong academically but were dropped to pres. scholarships in favor of alumni kids. who knows what else goes into the decision?

No...you recieve an acceptance to the school with the scholarship notification...I guess you could have your acceptance recinded, but that would not be based on the interview (unless you completely insulted the panel...)

hey syawn, its about 3 or 4, and those are only the ones that i know of. considering that my highschool only has 300 people, i'd say that's a pretty big group to be both alumni AND being considered for the trustee. in fact, not one that i know of who is getting trustee considered isn't alumni.....
