D wants to go to USC as an East Asian Languages & Culture major. She just got her ACT scores back as follows:
34 Eng
26 Math
36 Reading
32 Science
Will USC just look at her composite score of 32 or will they look at each section individually? Since she’s not a STEM major, how badly will that 26 math hurt her?
UW GPA is 3.9, W is 4.3
It really won’t hurt her if other aspects of her application are strong and demonstrate her interest/passion in EALC or something that makes her unique and standout. 32 is certainly a solid score, of course people love that 33-34 because each point is a differentiation, but at this point of the year, my kids were so mentally done with standardized testing, so I get if she wants to call it a day. Sometimes you risk getting a lower score set, so it is always a bit of a gamble, however, a point or two improvement also increases the merit award chances…The 32 will certainly get her in their view and from there they will look at each section separately. Good luck!
