How does volunteering at a library benefit?

What qualities are highlighted to college admission when you volunteer at a library? Currently I just shelve books and I can’t think of any occupations that fit what I’m doing, but a librarian. Some jobs interested in is being an educator in math, science, or something else relating to those fields.
Also some recommendations for what to volunteer as and what types internships I should apply for would be great.

I feel my time at the library is pretty useless atm :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t volunteer based on how you think it’ll look to colleges – volunteer if it’s something you genuinely enjoy doing  I volunteer at a hospital and museum but I’m not going into anything medical or historical.

I do enjoy it and I’m definitely not going to drop it, but I’m just wondering if it relates to anything that I want to do and what else I can volunteer for.

Are there opportunities for advancement?

I started off volunteering at a library last year (freshman) and got a job this year.

Maybe ask your boss if you can work in the area of the library that concentrates on research materials so you can get more exposure to that type of information. Many librarys have educational programs that you might be able to help out with. You can try to find a volunteer internship at a research lab, but these can be hard to come by. You could also tutor students in math and science. Ask around at your local elementary school and church; they can always use help teaching younger kids.

I help the librarians at my local library with the activities they plan for little kids. It’s a lot of fun, but, of course, you’ll actually have to like kids. If your library offers similar programs, ask the librarians if there’s anything you can do to help.

I volunteer at the local library and I am bored out of my mind. Thank god I don’t have a schedule so I only do it when I need CS hours.
