I just got waitlisted at Chicago, but I was wondering how this work. First I would tell Chicago I want to be kept on the waitlist. Then I would have to choose another college to attend and send in my deposit. Yet, if I send in my deposit, aren't I committing myself to that college? What happens if Chicago accepts me later?

Yes, if you submit a deposit to another college, you’re essentially saying “I believe I will go to that college.” It’s not binding, and if you opt out and go to Chicago, then you just lose the deposit money paid to that other school.

I got waitlisted at Chicago too, does anyone know where can I find hard data about students who get in after being waitlisted?

danir: maybe re post here?
