how does work study work?

I dont know to much about it to you get paid or does the money go directly to school? Also how do you apply for it? Was there an option on fasfa? I dont remember seeing one

You apply for it when you submit a FAFSA, basically if your EFC is 000 and the school has funding they will award you work study and you look for on-campus jobs that need student workers and they will most likely give you the job because they only have to pay you pretty much nothing, the government covers almost all of your paycheck until your work study award runs out.

Think of it as a bank of account that a withdrawal is made from each time you get a paycheck until it runs out of money and gets refilled next year.

You get a paycheck like a normal job and it’s essentially a normal job on campus just the government pays your paycheck for the most part, thats all

@Matt4200 Dam i wish i would have done work study my first year at cc it was the only time my EFC was 0. I wont qualify for it now my EFC is 10457 for 2014-15 year pretty said about it. Hopeing i still qualify for some aid.

It’s not that the requirement is 000 it’s just they give it to who needs it most which is the people with the lowest EFC.

Yeah but it’s so limited that it’s hard to get, you’ll probably get some grants and hopefully scholarships that will bring down your COA.

At my college the person at financial aid in charge of work study had a list of open positions to show me and called the supervisor of the department I picked to arrange an interview, but I have no idea if that is universal to all colleges. Yours may not offer that service. It wasn’t hard to get hired (I didn’t expect to have any job interviews that day, so I was wearing shorts, my hair and beard were haggard, and I was drenched in sweat from bicycling in a California summer, and I still got the job), but that may be due to my specific school or the fact that I applied in Summer quarter, not Fall quarter, or it could be because my supervisor is very laid back about appearance.
