<p>Mine doesn't rank either. It does, however, provide colleges with a histogram distribution of weighted GPA's, but as jenskate said, it varies between schools.</p>

<p>For regular classes, A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.
For AP classes, A=5.0, B=4.0, etc.</p>
<p>They also factor in any summer school courses or courses taken at a university.</p>

<p>My grade is on the "old system", class rank points. Class credits (labs cost 6, as they run into lunch; the rest cost 5) times the level (different points for Honors/AP/IB, Advanced, Academic, Studies) times your grade (points for A+, A, etc). </p>
<p>The grade after mine goes to weighted GPA, and eventually the school will stop giving out class ranks.</p>
<p>Ours ranks with AP classes worth 6, honors 5, regular 4. They include every class, including arts, PE and driver's ed, which are all regular courses and can bring down a GPA. One PE and arts class is required. Several years ago our #2 kid missed #1 because of driver's ed. Since then most kids near the top of the class take driver's ed from a private company to keep it off their transcript. (You have to pay for it at school too, but it's a little cheaper.) </p>
<p>Generally the top 10 or so kids all have straight A's, and the difference is number of AP's and honor's classes taken. If there's a tie, they look at number grades.</p>

<p>My school ranks by weighted GPA but on an unusual scale: AP classes are up to 4.6 for a 97-100, 4.4 for 94-96, 4.2 for 90-93, etc. Honors classes start at 4.3, and regular at 4.0.</p>
