ElCommando- The grading scale is like that just because the school officials don't like to deal with decimals, they just multiplied the 4.0 scale by 3. Also, I messed up, an A+ would be a 13.

rest easy everyone the colleges recalculate gpas do they not?

I think most, if not all, do recalculate. I started this thread so I could better understand the GPAs posted on CC in What Are My Chances threads, ED results threads, etc. I was most confused about people with GPAs over 5...

ohhhhh yea Ive heard others talk about gpa being weird and stuff and im not sure they all know its recalculated because i told someone and they had no clue...just making sure.

wow, it seems there are a lot of people with 90-100 A's

our school is 93+ A's

While I'm not happy my kids GPAs will look lower than someone who goes to a school where any A is a 4.0, I think the way our school does it is much more accurate. There's a big difference between getting a 93 and getting a 100, and the GPA should reflect that. I just wish there was a standard system for comparison's sake, especially if GPA comes into play with merit money.

I think that only a few kids would benefit from the A+=4.3 scale because most of us dont get those especially in APs...except for the few ppl on this board

AP GPA:
100=5.87
99=5.75
98=5.62...
Honors:
100=5.37...
Advanced/Regular:
100=4.87

It pays off to take challenging courses.

I hope colleges recalcuate the GPAs, it really sucks that someone with the EXACT same grades as me as a 3.8 and I have a 3.4. This is actually true!!

you know, i think it would help a lot if we standardized the GPA system to post. It really isn't hard to convert any system to the 4.0 system. Either that, or post what type of grading scale you have with your GPA.

99-100 A+
96-98 A
94-95 A-
93-92 B+
91-89 B
87-88 B-
85-86 C+
82-84 C
80-81 C-
70-79 D range

GPA Scale

A+= 4.3
A= 4.0
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7
C+= 2.3
C= 2.0
.....

how is a B+ well into the 90s....sucks for u socrates..

B+ is 93 at my school too :)

DANG... so for some schools <70 is a F? That's harsh..
Mine is good ol' 10% breaks for each.

4.0-3.5= A
3.49-2.5= B
2.49-1.5= C
1.49-1= D
.99-below= F
we receive one extra point for honors classes, and 2 for APs
our weighted GPA is calculated by adding all our extra points from honors and AP classes and dividing the sum by 15. The results is then added to the unweighted GPA.
our valedictorian last year had a 6.8(she used to post on CC)

My average is about a 92% unweighted...
