We had one assembly the first day of school this (senior) year. It was about an hour long and was utterly pointless. Then, everyone had about a 15 minute meeting with their counselor at some point during the first month. For some people, thats probably it.

However, the counselors at my school are certainly knowledgeable, and if a student makes extra efforts to schedule appointments and come up with questions they want answered, they can get some great advice. I’ve probably had about 10 appointments with my counselor, from just asking a quick question, to long discussions about the pros and cons of all the state schools.
