How does your school schedule classes?

My school does 7 periods a day @ ~45 minutes each as well as a 1 hour long lunch time called Charger Time, which is when all the clubs meet.

My school is the worst, or one of the worst, in the county.

How does your school do scheduling and how "good" is your school?

Sidenote: My school had decided to to AB block scheduling but just decided we didn't have enough teachers to do it...I had planned for 8 classes and now will have only 7...I'm pretty mad.

Were one of the few schools to do trimesters (is it really that rare?) We have 5 bells around 72 minutes each, and 4th period is where all the lunches are (A, B, or C lunch.) It’s just classes and lunch, we don’t even get a break or anything special.

We have A/B block scheduling, 4, 83 minute periods a day, with a 30 minute lunch and 30 minute co curricular. Which means we have 8 classes, I like the way it works out. The school I attend is the best public school in mid state. (But it has entrance exams, and is based on past academic records and such.)

I have a 4-Block schedule so 8 classes a year 4 per semester. I like it, but don’t have anything else to compare it to. The school has 4 lunches during third period. Each class is 85 minutes, except third period which is longer for lunch. The only issue I have with the block is smushing AP classes into one semester…those out there with full year APUSH try cramming it into one semester(a unit every week and a half or less).

This year my school is changing scheduling-grrr
core teachers reccomend you for classes, so time to start sucking up again…
electives are going to be scheduled with arena scheduling, which at my school seems like a REALLY bad idea, the school has a big range of students from einsteins to some of the dumbest people you can imagine and the amount of fights have increased big time this year, so arena scheduling…I better get my classes!

Anyone have experience with arena scheduling?

9 periods each day, 40 minutes each.

Scheduling is done individually on computers in January.

I go to a magnet school, so it’s very good and competitive.
We have day 1/day 2 block scheduling. 90 minutes each block. 4 blocks a day. 2 semesters.

7 periods max (Most take 5), 56 minutes each, 5 minute passing period, 38 minute lunch which most upperclassmen don’t stay for.

I got 8:00 to 12:22.

On Wednesdays, I got 9:36 to 12:54.

My school has period 1-12 45 mins each period 1starts at 7:20, period 12 ends at 5:06
Freshmens & sophomores 4-11 OR 5-12, if your lucky 3-10 with 1 period lunch
Juniors- 1-7 with no lunch, 1-8 with

I have no lunch and get out at 1:00

Seniors- (if they are up to date with their credits) 1-4 so they get out at like 10:30
But they have the choice of extra classes If they’d like.

I think mine is pretty basic.
8 classes a year. 2 semesters. 4 classes a day. 90 minutes long. 3 lunches during third block, but the duration isn’t affected.

school starts at 8:10 and is out at 3:15

7 periods total, first 4, then a 30min Encore (where you get to work on homework, go to club meetings, or do anything else you need to do), then a 30min lunch, then three more periods. The periods are 45 min for the first four and 50 for the last three (this is a recent change in order to help make up snow days). We have two semesters. A very standard, small, school with nothing fancy, and based on description, much like the OP’s

my school also kind of sucks in my opinion

block schedule. We divide the year into 4 terms or 2 semesters. We have 4 classes a term–8 a year. first lunch is right after 2nd period. second lunch is after their 3rd period. (so in the middle of the first lunch-ers 3rd period, the 2nd lunch starts) classes are 95 minutes long and lunch is around 40.

We have four blocks a day. Two semesters. Eight classes a year or more depending on whether you took quarter long classes. Each class is 90 minutes long. During third block, lunch is split into four groups: A, B, C, and D <— reserved for freshmen only. School starts at 7:35 AM and ends 2:10 PM. The only time clubs and other ECs meet is afterschool.

eight 45 minute periods with 3 minutes in between each. We travel around with our home room to diff classes. Lunch for 6-9 is 5th period 10-12 is 6th. 8th period is devoted to clubs

runs from 7:13-2:25

we get no choice in classes

We are a really big school (2200+ students) so we have an interesting schedule system. Our day is 4 blocks, 90 minutes each, with ~8 minutes between classes (our campus is huge), and during 3rd block there are 4 30 minute lunches. We go from 8:15–3:30. Most classes meet everyday for one semester, but some classes meet every other day all year. If you’re in IB, all of your classes are a/b day scheduled for junior and senior years. All clubs/sports meet either before or after school, and most of the time the buses get there 30+ minutes early.

Most people like it, but sometimes AP teachers get angry that they can’t pick to have their classes a/b or semester. I like it, for the most part.

@Crest1

Our school also has 5 periods a day (hour 10 minutes?) and trimesters. I don’t know any other school that does!

Our school routinely sends the top 20% to Top 20/Ivies and the bottom 80% works at the nearby McDonalds or goes to community college. So…uh…you decide :)
