I REALLY want to take a specific professor for Linear Algebra (b/c he's got GREAT reviews on rate my professor), but there are already 8 people on the waitlist.

If I were to become the 9th person on the waitlist, how likely will a spot open up for me before school starts? The class capacity is 20 students, if class size is a determining factor.

In a class of 20, and in a core subject like Linear Algebra, I don’t think it is likely that you will get in, but ya never know.

When you enroll, you can enroll in a different Linear Algebra class. You can then join the waitlist for your first choice and use the “drop if enrolled” feature to automatically drop the original should you get off the waitlist. Or, of course, you can push back linear algebra to a different semester. Sounds like you’re already ahead of schedule in Math.

Hahaha actually I’m planning on taking Calc 3 simultaneously (according to YES, it’s a prereq OR coreq)

Personally I would not recommend taking them at the same time.

I’d have to take 2 math courses simultaneously for 2 semesters anyway, so I thought why not take the two that are related to each other. Because once I take the other 200-level courses, Calc 3 might be the easiest thing to take simultaneously compared to the rest.

But I see your point. This coming year I have to take Bio and O Chem. Add Calc 3 AND Linear Algebra to the mix and it might turn ugly. I could always put the “2 maths for 2 semesters” thing off until next year, when I won’t be taking the dreaded O Chem.

Your first two semesters are the easiest time to screw up. I don’t say that to scare you, but a lot of people spend three years at Vandy trying to undo the damage they did Freshman year. There is no rush to take all your major’s required courses.
