I'm pretty sure I know all the schools that I want to apply to, and I want to do as little as possible in the fall school year as far as applications are concerned. So when is the earliest i can start? Or does it depend on each school?

You can always start working on essays.

The CA comes out in August, other applications around that time.

Ask teachers for LORS now.

Bowling Green sent out a email that you can apply now and have your school send your grades once your done this year (HS Junior).

Hey, you can start working on your college list and essay like entomom said. Also visit schools (If you can) and collect as much info as you can and it will help you write their supplements especially Why “X” college? question which is quite popular :D

~ Whenever the application becomes available - sure, send it in. Your list can change as the process goes on.

With due respect to entomom, I wouldn’t ask quite yet, and here’s why. (This was just about the only piece of useful advice my daughter got from her guidance counselor.)

Right now, most teachers are preoccupied with the seniors. The seniors have APs coming, and then finals, and then senior grades have to be calculated and turned in before graduation. But after the seniors graduate, teachers and guidance counselors can pay a lot more attention to the current juniors. So the guidance counselor’s advice, which makes a lot of sense to me, was to ask teachers for letters of recommendation after the seniors graduate, but before school gets out.

Your teachers will remember you well. They’ll be able to work on your LOR over the summer if they’re so inclined. You’ll probably have your letters ready to go early in the fall, if you’re ready to apply then. But you won’t be piling on during a very busy time.

^Thanks for the correction, my main point was not to wait until the fall.

Right, don’t wait until fall! That’s certainly more important than waiting until after the seniors are gone.

Is the CA essay going to be different this year? I think the new questions are awful.

^No more ‘topic of your choice’.

But wasn’t that for last year? I remember they announced the questions, but I didn’t realize that was for the current juniors. Do the new questions came out in August?
